Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Our list of FAQs and answers will be developed over the duration of the study. If you have a question please contact mama@npeu.ox.ac.uk and do revisit this page as we continue to improve and update it.

How do I get the MAMA Study App?

Please see our guide to downloading and using the MAMA Study App. If you have any problems please email or call the MAMA Trial Team and we will be able to help you. If you do not wish to use the MAMA Study App please let your Clinical Team know when you join the MAMA Study, they will be able to provide you with either paper versions of the MAMA questionnaires or the Trial Team can send you links so you can complete them on a computer.

I have been approached about the MAMA Study, do I have to take part?

No. It's entirely up to you to decide whether or not you take part. If you decide you do not wish to take part, you do not have to give a reason and your care will not be affected in any way. If you do take part and you then change your mind about this later, you are free to withdraw from any aspect of the study at any time. Your care will not be affected and will follow the standard approach in your hospital. We will only collect and use data relating to events occurring up to the time of withdrawal.

Can my baby take part?

There will be an option for your baby to be considered for another part of the study looking at your baby's immune system. You can find out about this optional part of the study in the Infant Immune Response Information Leaflet. This part of the study would involve 3 visits to your home to take small blood samples (approximately 1-2 teaspoons of blood for each sample) when your baby is 2 months, 5 months, and 13 months of age. You do not have to decide whether you would be happy for your baby to have these blood tests yet. But we will ask you to let us know if you are happy to be contacted by the MAMA Coordinating Centre about this after your baby is born. You do not have to agree to your baby having blood tests in order to take part in the MAMA study.

Will I be reimbursed for taking part?

There is no payment for taking part in the study. But when we send you the questionnaire when your baby is 2 years old we will send you a £15 high street voucher as a thank you for taking part.
